Cut-off Gloves

I have warm mitts...thanks to my mother for making me some cut off gloves out of scraps of yarn. I actually like them (the bitsy look). These gloves are so warm and made of pure wool...Just the washing to watch out for now.

What's on my Needles?

An Aran scarf....I stuffed up with my Trellis stitch (actually I have never knitted it before). What's on my needles now? Well I'm back at the beginning I've had to unrip. Don't you hate that, thank goodness it's thick wool and bigger needles...

I'm using 5mm needles and 12 ply white wool

Pixie Hat

It was so hard trying to catch this little tot to get a pic of her Pixie Hat but I did manage to get a dark blurry one. Her sister's pic just ended up a blur of red not fit to be published...so I gave up on that idea.

This cute Pixie Hat is knitted in 8 ply Merino and Cashmere on 4mm needles. This woollen yarn is so soft....I asked my mother to knit the two hoods, she knits tighter than me and I was being lazy. But I did make the ties and sewed the hats up.....This patterns sizing is for 2 to 10 year old children (one size fits all) and is very easy pattern to follow. It's just a little bit big for this one year old, but she can still wear it as it ties under the chin....

Genevieve Pixie Hat pattern can be bought here...

Easy Noro Winter Scarf

Wool: Noro Kureyon 4 balls 50g 100% wool (mixture of shades)
Needle Size: 4.5mm, I used 5mm
Pattern: Made it up, use as many stitches in garter stitch as you want, Slip first stitches knit wise to give a firm edge. I never counted how many stitches I had on the needle.....
Sewing up: Twist to make a mobius twist and sew up ends, then wrap it around your neck to keep warm...

You can source this wool in NZ but my batches
were from Japan. I've finally got around to
knitting them up 2 years later...

Little Red

I'm having a little sewing break at the moment (hope it doesn't turn into a long one LOL) This scarf and hood is knitted from Drops pattern 109-56. The knitting pattern requires you to use a super chunky wool, which you knit up on size 10 knitting needles. The you change to 12mm  knitting needles for beginning of the scarf. If you are keen to knit this hoody/scarf you can access the pattern here. It took me a while to work it out as I like knitting instructions to be very specific, or more visual...I got there in the end though!

This is an adult pattern and it's made to fit an adult although I have a child is modelling my effort. I've got a thing for red this winter.....I've also just finished some wrist warmers in red which are kinda cute (for me this time).

Wool used: Moda Vera Shiver 100% acrylic
Knitting Needles: 9mm & 10mm

Did I have problems with the pattern?
Yes I did....it was all my own doing by not using the wool to the pattern or doubling the thread. Plus I don't do tension guages...I'm knitting in acrylic too so I changed the pattern slightly to fit.

For the Hood: I cast on 58 stitches and used size 9 needles.
For the scarf: I cast on 20 stitches and used a size 10 needle, then changed back to 9 when attaching the hood
For the back seam: I used a 3 needle bind of. The bind off seam was shown on the inside of the hood
Would I knit this pattern again? Yes....because it was an easy pattern once you worked out the fit. Next time though I would use 100% wool, mainly because I prefer knitting in wool and it is much warmer fibre...

I had a reluctant model and in the end this
one charged a fee to pose....Very wise child,
 holiday pocket money solved!

Woolley Tights for Bubs

These knitted tights I made a winter or so ago......I loved the quality of this wool, it had that 'good knitting feel to it'. I've gotta have that, feels so good on the needles you can't put it down or I wouldn't complete my project (you know what I mean?) I found the Tiny Birds Soaker Pants pattern online it was pretty easy to follow.  I liked this project very much the tights are pure wool so they absorb  any wetness from wicking nappies/covers etc....

I managed to match up the stripes...
the cord is a single crochet
Knitted in Cheakheaton Country Prints 8 ply
I bought the wool on sale for a couple of dollars...
