Lazy Day

It's a long time since I've posted I don't sew much these days....The dog doesn't do much either, just loves to lay in her bed all day. The cat's not much better, he spends his time on the table.

Today Was Such a Nice day

I lost my blog mojo, and with all the 'curved balls life brings' I just spent more time on Instagram so easy to just take a photo and put it up and follow some fellow bloggers....But I lost my tomato sauce recipe, and suddenly I remembered it was on my blog, so here I am!

Today was so hot...Here are a few pics of my day, a very quiet day! I spent some time taking photos of the cats who spent the morning inside too.

Long Yoga Style Skirt

This skirt is made out of a fine stretch crinkly knit fabric which actually needed lining. I chose not to line it because I had nothing to line the skirt with...So I have settled for an under-skirt to stop it being so see through. The pattern I used was the Ladies Yoga A-Line-Skirt and I made a shorter version earlier and it can be found here.

This skirts mine looks rather shapeless on the dummy....but easy to
wash just twist it and it stays all nice and crinkly.

Putting my smells on everything...

He has a big bell so he can't catch rather big birds...

Cushion Make Over

I've donated my time my time to unpicking, squaring up, and re-sewing lots of school cushions which have screen printing on the front that needs covering....It's kept me very busy and given me lots of practice doing invisible zippers. Not so easy when your recycling them. The big plus is my stash is shrinking, all those little bits of cotton fabric I've been keeping forever are on their way out...

Sewing From the Past

My sewing is at a standstill, it's the school holidays and I've been having a bit of a tidy up (photo albums). So once again I've been lost to the past...

This is Granny's cat I once tried to chop him up with her big dressmaking shears. Luckily they were blunt and I was stopped just as I had a big hunk of black fur wedged between the blades. 'Monty' the black cat always drunk his milk in a cup, he used his paw to lick it up...Granny used to send me photos of him when I came back to NZ.

The dress on the left is made by Granny I'm not too sure about mine...In the second picture all the sisters are wearing dresses sewn by her also.

The pics at the bottom are two dresses made by me. The one on the left was perfect except for where I placed the buttons. That's always a hard one isn't it? Has anyone got any tricks how they place their shirt buttons?

The dress on the right just got shorter and shorter. For a dropped waist dress there was hardly any skirt, I didn't do alterations to patterns in those days...The yellow dress was one of my self taught efforts, just when I started sewing. There was no one to tell me I should have shortened the bodice a wee bit...and those sleeves are so puffy!

Hanging Around the Christmas Tree

You can't take the 'stray out of a cat'. I adopted this boy to give him a better life. He'd been wandering the streets and ended up at the vets. So he's very skillful at opening packages of food. Now he's decided to open the dog's present, a big bag of Ekanuba...tastes better if it's stolen!

somehow he has managed to get himself

Kitty Kat Kute

This is such a cute cat needle wallet pattern....I really don't do justice to it at all. To start with my felt wasn't strong enough for the outside of the wallet and I wasn't so fussy on my sewing which is pretty uneven. I'll blame the light or my eyes I'm not good on the small stuff....especially when you don't mark anything. The good thing is it doesn't matter what it looks like my needles are now in one place...

But it is a very cute sewing kit to make and I'd make it again as it was fun. Next time though,I'd make it with a firmer material for the outside. You can find the pattern, pdf files and instructions at sew4home

Is it seven or is it nine? Never mind I'll work it out......... I think this kitten has a death wish he sure is crazy.......

Today I'll hang myself.....

Or shall I bungee jump instead.....

Better yet I'll play on the table....

Now for the big buzz.....

No more thrills time to sleep......and now I can
finally sew in peace!

The Rat Catcher's Apprentice

When I was little I had a thing for cats......I  even started befriending wild ones (the result was a bad case of ringworm).  I even tried to cut my Granny's cat Monty with her great big dressmaking scissors (they were so huge). So it seems like cats and sewing are a good match for me!

Hence a stray little kitten has now found a patch of his own at my place....she is a pin picker, sewing pattern destroyer all in one.......You cannot sew anything with this cat around and forget about putting wooly nylon on your overlocker it all ends up a tangled mess.... In fact I have had it, one sewing disaster today is too much for me. I think I'll give up and start again tomorrow! It's just one of those bad sewing days.......

The Sleeping Cat

Since my sewing cat left us, the other cat has taken over, funny how they do this.....This ones not a pin picker but she likes to just roll about in the pattens and material.......Try and pull your pattern and fabric away from her.......No way.......out goes the paw, hooks and all!

Oh it's sad...... my pin picking cat is not pin picking any more (that's a bit of a tongue twister). He only pinched one pin out of the couch and lost total interest in the rest, he usually picks them all out......He's getting old now and is on his last legs, mind you I've been saying that for years......
