Sewing up Scraps

I'm procrastinating and putting off covering a square cushion with oil cloth. I know it's got to be done but I'm avoiding it.....

I've been playing around with scraps of oil cloth and I made this little bag. It's nothing special and rather a simple design......But I made it with the purpose of collecting up all my make-up that I leave lying around.

It's very easy to make as it only has a velcro closure and it's turned under at the top and sewn. I cut out a rectangle of oil cloth on the fold,  then I just sewed up the side seams. Because the bottom is on the fold I just sewed the corners. This made the bag more square at the bottom so it could stand alone.

I like that it is semi-open
Easy to get in and find stuff...
Velcro closure...

New Sewing Case

This sewing case is made out of a type of oil cloth, it's much bigger than my other. I fancied it so much  I  just had to buy it!

Kitty Kat Kute

This is such a cute cat needle wallet pattern....I really don't do justice to it at all. To start with my felt wasn't strong enough for the outside of the wallet and I wasn't so fussy on my sewing which is pretty uneven. I'll blame the light or my eyes I'm not good on the small stuff....especially when you don't mark anything. The good thing is it doesn't matter what it looks like my needles are now in one place...

But it is a very cute sewing kit to make and I'd make it again as it was fun. Next time though,I'd make it with a firmer material for the outside. You can find the pattern, pdf files and instructions at sew4home

Left over pieces of felt....my black felt went missing for the
cat's face, so it became a white puss...Then I forgot
to add the Dacron under the cat face....
The cat ended looking flat!

Pin Cushion Swap 2012

After lots of 'trying to make a pin cushion' here is the one I sent to the U.S.A. I stuffed it with Dacron I wanted to try walnut shells, but had visions of it being stuck at Customs...

Here is the pin cushion I received from my swap partner all the way from the Mississippi. I'm very pleased with it and it will get much use. The pin cushion swap has been a lot of fun. Thanks Rach and Charlotte....

Celebrations and Cakes

It was one of the girls birthday celebrations yesterday. I thought I'd post her cake her mother bought her which was made by Patisserie Yahagi. This cake is not sweet as usual cake making with sugar....

Fresh cream and fruit with peaches inside....

It's Snowing

It is very cold, no snow play for me, it's just too freezing outside.  Last time it snowed the spouting came off so I'm hoping it stays there this time......
The beginnings of a snowman...only the dog would help him!

Five Little Frogs

I was sewing only one frog, but a frog maker I am not! One little frog turned into five, because I sewed them way too close to the edge of the fabric.....I used quilting cotton and they all started to fray a little. But I've fixed them now with a bit of thread and some fabric glue.

Why am I making frogs? Well a little boy asked me as he wanted a frog for something.....The good thing from all my frog sewing mistakes is, he's been very playing frogs forever. It's a long weekend here so we like busy!

All of the frogs have been given names, some have paper helmets and bungee chords. He's made his frogs a pond and has added a lily pad with a bee, a flower, and some fish. But now I can hear mutterings of 'my frogs are going to need a home'. I'm over sewing frogs now I'll give him a cardboard box, boys usually love boxes....He can put his frogs in there he'll enjoy that.

If you want to make a bean-bag frog this is a very easy pattern to use......It's called The Purl Frog, and there is a good tutorial and PDF on the Purl Bee website here. Happy frog making!

The blue one was best frog. I'd had lots of practice by then.
They have black glass beads for eyes which were
the hardest thing to sew onto the flimsy fabric
